The Robbie Turner Man Of The Match Award vs. Kingsley United - 27/9/09

The Man Of The Match Award was today awarded to Liam Boner after a stern performance at the back, but with a few momentary lapses, it was a shaky decision!

Woolton Sharks vs. Kingsley United - 27/9/09

Today was the toughest test yet, with a game against Kingsley. Unfortunately we lost 2-5 but it was a very entertaining game. Kingsley scored two goals within the first 5 minutes, so therefore, the Sharks' heads'  were down. After a momentary lapse in concentration to let us go 2-0 down, we got our act together and clawed it back to 2-2. Then, into the second half, we were battling a lot better and were winning most of the aerial battles, but unfortunately Will McGlade tried to clear his lines and scored an own goal, he was destroyed. Then they got another 2 goals, one being a penalty from a handball by Liam Boner. Our scorers were Liam Anderson and Will McGlade. Overall a very competitive game which the winning team did not deserve to win!

Big Test

This weekend is probably the toughest match yet as the Sharks are playing Kingsley; they haven't won a game yet, so let's hope they don't get their first win against us as we want to keep our wins going!

Happy Birthday Sam!

On Sunday, it was Sam's birthday, he was denied a birthday goal in the match vs. Recs Roby. Now, earlier this season, I published a post about it being Josh's birthday, and from now on I am going to publish a post for every player whose birthday it is in the future. Happy Birthday Sam!

The Robbie Turner Man Of The Match Award vs. Recs Roby - 20/9/09

Well deserved Man Of The Match Award given to Will McGlade after a stella performance scoring 2 goals. Whisker away from a hat-trick and it was probably only their 'keeper that stopped
him from getting a double hat-trick! Keep it up Will, excellent.

Recs Roby vs. Woolton Sharks - 20/9/09

To start with we were playing on a baby pitch, plenty of space for play on a decent pitch, with only 1 pitch being used. Slow start, no room to pass and some terrible defending gifted Recs Roby the opening goal. With the pitch being so congested there was no time in the midfield to stay on the ball, they took the initiative, and started passing the ball about because they were clearly used to the pitch. 10 minutes in, we settled down, Will McGlade getting a lot of possession in forward positions, profited from a parried shot. Our second goal came from a fantastic header by Sam Walkington, which was handballed on the line and denied him a birthday goal. Will McGlade dispatched the resulting penalty. Second half, we came out all guns blazing with Will McGlade looking for his first hat-trick of the season was denied on several occasions from long range. The other side were restricted to long range efforts till near the end when the Sharks gave a few corners away.

Will McGlade crossed a lovely ball in which floated over the defenders' heads and was met on the back post by Liam Anderson with a well timed drive to the back of the net. Josh kept busier than normal, pulled off some cracking saves. Recs Roby denied by the crossbar from a long range shot and they managed to close the gap to 2-3 from a corner making it a nervy end. All in all a good match, some of the big guns not on form but rest of team compensated for it, James Woods in with a crucial defensive header to deny an almost certain goal mid second half when we were 3-1 up. James Woods & Liam Anderson both battled well and the determination paid off with some great wing play. Defence were no nonsense but the task was not made any easier by the size of the pitch because shots were reigning in from just inside our half.

Not a great performance today but good dogged determination to come from a goal down to be winning the game 1-3 at one point.

The Robbie Turner Man Of The Match Award - vs. Team Oasis 13/9/09

The Man Of The Match Award was a close decision for manager and assistant to decide on, as the whole team were in for a shout. Eventually, after a long deliberation, the man of the match award went to Dylan Lang

Woolton Sharks vs. Team Oasis - 13/9/09

Great start by the Sharks, in the 4th minute Lewis Foster hit the Team Oasis bar. The first half was dominated by the Sharks who had a little scare in the 7th minute, but thankfully Josh Dodd made a brilliant save to keep the Sharks in the game. After 10 minutes Dylan Lang had a stinger of a shot saved by the Oasis 'keeper. Going into the second half, Team Oasis came back into the game, with a goal from around 35 yards out. From then on, it was a tight game, with both teams in it for the win... Oasis stayed tight at the back, but as the game wore on, they got tired and that opened up gaps in the Oasis defence for the Sharks to exploit. The Sharks had a bundle of chances but could not put them away. Overall a fair game.

2nd week in

Today is the day that we need to get a win. It's the second game of the season and after a disappointing defeat in the opening match, the Sharks need a confidence booster and a win today would be the best remedy.

Just a quick reminder!

Paul has said that, from now on if you don't turn up on a Saturday, you do not get picked for the match on a Sunday. Basically, the team is getting picked on a Saturday. Also, Paul doesn't want parents shouting from the sidelines!

The Robbie Turner Man Of The Match Award - 6/9/09 vs. Wolves

Lewis Foster was awarded a deserved man of the match trophy today although a stirling performance by Will McGlade in the first half and a great all-round performance by Alex Gallager on his debut gave Paul, the manager a tough decision!

Happy Birthday Josh!

A big happy birthday to Josh from all the Sharks. Seen as he brought all the sweets in for everyone, so whoever has their birthday next better out do him (I hope it's not Lewis)... hahaha

Dinner Dance

If you want to go, hurry, see Paul for details.

Woolton Sharks vs. Woolton Wolves

First game back after a lengthy period of rest, we weren't firing on all cylinders. The first half kicked off with a bang... the Wolves getting a freak early goal from a rebounded clearance. To be fair though, they had an extra man in the referee, he was on their side all the way through the match. It was an even game until half time with chances both ends but luck shone on the Wolves. The second half let the Sharks wanting defensively as they were caught on the break twice as they pushed for a goal. Then the match erupted into a sea of white shirts swamping those of yellow and blue, fighting for every ball (and winning most of them) but the Sharks had a host of chances to score and they never took them. But it was the first game of the season and there's lessons to learn!

Woolton Sharks vs. Woolton Academicals - Friendly

This game was a friendly match, a warm up before the start of the Merseyside & Halewood JFL new season 09/10. The result was a rather convincing win for the Woolton Sharks, who won the game 5-1. It was a very enthrawling match, both sides getting stuck in and looking for the win. The scorers were L Foster, J Davenport (2), S Walkington and a rather unfortunate own goal (for the Academicals that is.) Then Woolton Academicals got a goal back. Altogether it was a very closely fought-out game. I think the players are all fired up for the new season!
